Details:

Earliest records of medieval walls from C11, probably established in C10 re-using the Roman defences - withstood C11 attacks. {1}

4 gates in existance by C13, but no traces now survive. {2}

C17-C18 references to a second wall enclosing larger area and pitched stone foundations seen in 1981. {4}
