Hospital of the Holy Ghost and St Margaret founded for lepers between 1174 and 1185. {1}
Had a chapel served by the Priory (PRN 44434). In c.1510 rebuilt by Abbot Bere. Chapel sold in 1549 and destroyed. By 1612 was an almshouse, known as 'the Spittle'. From 1938 restored and used as offices of Rural Community Council. {3}
Fire destroyed the thatched roof and since it has remained unused and uninsurable. {4}
Dendrochrological samples taken from the roof and gallery in 2002 failed to provide a date. {5}
