Details:
This site, formerly Wheal Eliza mine, NE of Simonsbath, Exmoor has been transferred to the Exmoor National Park HER. The details below are those that were transferred and have not been updated. {1}
Iron mine situated either side of River Barle. Several elements of the mine remain. {2}
Mine originally called Wheal Maria, then changed to Wheal Eliza. Was a copper mine from 1845-54 and then iron mine until 1857 although first activity may be may be from 1552. Work encouraged by Knight family but not successful due to insufficient ore. Road built along River Barle to Simonsbath. {3}
