Archaeological observations were made during the reduction of levels and the excavation of foundation trenches for the construction of two new dwellings on land to the rear of 5 High Street, Wells. Although elements of the former mail stables were noted, the existence of a further building shown on 19th century maps was not established. The mail stables were demolished in the mid-20th century. In general, the excavations were of insufficient depth to establish dating or to locate earlier structures. No early or significant finds were recovered. {1}
