Three test pits were excavated in advance of the construction of an extension of the Music School in Wells situated in the Old Archdeaconry, Wells. Initial results indicated medieval stratigraphy buried beneath a fairly constant layer of late medieval/early post-medieval make up layer which may represent fifteenth century land raising activities. One of the trial pits encountered the footings of an E-W wall abutting the main garden wall. It is sandwiched between the nineteenth century clearance and medieval stratigraphy and is located close to the calculated position of the north wall of a building recorded on John Carters 1794 map of the Cathedral Precinct. {1}
