Military camp associated with ranges (PRN 35464). {1}

Doniford Camp, a World War II military camp, has been recorded on aerial photographs taken in 1945. The camp is now a holiday camp and has significantly altered since its use as a military camp. It is centred at ST 0944 4316 and extends over an area measuring 655m by 455m. A zig zag trench is centred at ST 0936 4294. {2}

The camp was used by A Battery, 21st Royal Artillery Regiment (B Battery was at Liddymore, PRN 15840, and C Battery at St Audries, PRN 18552).

See PRN 18552 for more details of subesequent American usage. {4}

In November 2010, an evaluation (PRN 28366) was undertaken at Doniford Holiday Park. The sparse archaeological remains comprised a north-south aligned ditch and four truncated post holes sealed by an extensive build up, or possibly levelling dump, of topsoil. Finds from one of the post holes indicated that this was of 20th century date and probably related to the military use of the site. {5}
