Details:

A single trench 20m long was excavated in the rear of the hotel where building works were planned. Several areas of well-preserved medieval deposits were recorded, including a pit, post-hole and possible culvert. Above this were the remains of post-medieval structures relating to known and unknown buildings, including walls and several floor levels, with some evidence for destruction by fire in one phase. Natural geology was recorded, sloping to the S where previous evaluation (PRN 25613) has suggested a relict stream valley. There was very sparse evidence of prehistoric and Roman activity. {1}
