Details:

A balloon hanger, now used as a store in a scrap yard. {1}

Attempts to have the hanger Listed were rejected by the Secretary of State in November 2001. {2}

The hanger measures 100ft x 70ft x 80ft high and was erected in 1940-41 The hanger was need so that the ballon being tested need not be deflated each night. The balloon was filled with a mixture of air and hydrogen made at the Weston-super-Mare gas works. The experimental work continued until 1944. {3}
